NRCA 2004 Scholarship Awarded
NRCA sent scholarship application forms to the financial aide
officers at each of the six Nebraska Community Colleges in late February 2004.
We asked them to screen the applicants and send us three. Applications
were reviewed and a three member scholarship committee selected two for
interview.
This scholarship was available to a graduating senior who will enroll
in one of these schools in an automotive field. They must be a full time
student carrying at least 12 credit hours per semester. Each applicant
will be asked to write a 250 word "personal statement" explaining
why they want/need or should be awarded the scholarship.
One half or $500 will be awarded upon enrollment meeting the criteria
set out. The other half will be awarded upon enrollment for the second
semester. The funds for this scholarship were raised by a raffle of a 1960's
gas pump donated to NRCA by Hoffman Petroleum.
On Saturday, April 10th the committee went to North Platte to interview
both applicants which was a tough decision. Christopher Ningen of Big Springs
was selected to receive the first NRCA Scholarship for automotive studies.
Each applicant was required to submit a "personal statement Your
committee feels we have an outstanding student to award this scholarship
to and was very careful in how this selection was made. Christopher appears
to have all the tools necessary to become successful in his education and
career. Christopher is shown in the picture with NRCA President, Gary Hedman.
